Let’s talk about timing—because picking the season for your senior photos can totally change the vibe. Here in North Texas, we get a little bit of everything when it comes to weather. Some months are gorgeous, some are a gamble, and some… well, let’s just say I don’t shoot outside in February for a reason.
When you're deciding on the best time for your session, think about what feels like you. Do you love golden sunsets and cozy outfits? Are you drawn to color and bloom and that fresh energy of spring? Or maybe you're up for something totally non-traditional and want to lean into summer adventure vibes. Whatever you're thinking, here’s a breakdown of what each season brings around here—and why some are better than others.
Fall is hands-down one of the most popular choices. The light is soft and golden, the trees start giving us those warm tones, and the air finally chills out after a brutal summer. It just feels like something special is happening. Fall photos have that classic, timeless look without feeling stiff or forced. You can dress it up or keep it laid-back, and either way, it looks incredible. Just don’t wait too long to schedule—fall dates book up fast, and it’s a narrow window before the trees go bare and everything turns brown.
Spring is a close second, and honestly, it might be the most underrated. Everything is green, fresh, and alive again—like the world finally woke up and decided to be cute. North Texas can surprise us with wildflowers in open fields, soft sunlight, and all the color. There’s just something about spring that feels hopeful and full of energy. It’s the kind of season where you can throw on a sundress, run barefoot through the grass, and not freeze while doing it.
Speaking of freezing—winter is not the move. Unless we’re indoors or you have some super specific vision that requires bare trees and cloudy skies, I won’t even pretend to recommend it. I’m not interested in turning blue trying to change camera lenses, and I don’t expect you to smile through windburn. It’s unpredictable, uncomfortable, and usually just… gray. Not the vibe we’re going for.
Summer, on the other hand, is a wild card in the best way. Yes, it’s hot (this is Texas, after all), but we also get those long golden evenings and way more flexibility with scheduling. School’s out, things are more chill, and the whole session just feels like an adventure. We can shoot late, get creative, and honestly just have fun with it. Whether it’s the lake, a road trip, or something spontaneous, summer is perfect for seniors who want something different.
And here’s the thing—you don’t actually have to pick just one. Two of my senior packages leave room for splitting your session between seasons. You can do fall and spring for two totally different looks and moods, or even stick to one season and just break it up across two days or locations. If you want to go all in, I also offer a full senior year experience that includes three different sessions—basically your whole senior story from start to finish. It’s such a cool way to show the different sides of who you are throughout the year.
At the end of the day, the best season is the one that fits you. Whether we’re chasing fall leaves, spring blooms, or summer sunsets, your session should feel relaxed, real, and a little bit like magic. And that has way more to do with you than the calendar.
